Jacob’s Kitchen 2010: A Retrospective

With the new year well underway, I thought it might be fun to take this opportunity to look back at how far we’ve come together this last year. When I started this blog in May I honestly had no idea that anyone would ever be reading it. Yet here you are.Writing and cooking for all of you over the last eight months has been a tremendous privilege, and has served as a source of a great deal of personal joy. Thank you for tuning in from time to time to take a peek inside my kitchen. I hope that you have found some inspiration, learned a new skill, or perfected a troublesome recipe. I have personally learned a great deal this last year (about life, blogging, photography, food, etc.), and hope to only get bigger and better from here. But before we move forward, let’s take a look back at a few highlights from this last year together.

Cranberry Orange Scones

S’more Brownies

Crème Brûlée

Grilled Shrimp with Mango Salsa

Zucchini Pancakes with Horseradish Cream

Goat Cheese Stuffed Cherry Tomatoes

Blueberry Ice Cream (dressed as a milkshake)

Chocolate Bread Pudding Old Fashioned Berry Shortcakes

Honey Vanilla Lavender Crème Brûlée

I hope that 2011 is filled with many new adventures (both in and out of the kitchen). My foodie resolutions this year include consistently blogging at least three times a week (imagine that?!), devoting time to the development of vegan and gluten free recipes (since I am constantly asked for them, yet continue to drag my feet), to attend the foodbuzz festival this fall and finally be able to put a face to all of you fabulous foodies out there, and last but not least to not use a single plastic grocery bag this year (wish me luck, fingers crossed!).

What are your foodie resolutions for the new year?

  1. I loved looking back at all of this with you. What a great year you have had. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2011!

  2. Sigh, what gorgeous photos! Even your first food photo is better than mine which is hiding somewhere on my Flickr 😉

Happy new year, lovely, hope you have an awesome 2011 – looking forward to seeing what it brings you! Team Jacob FTW!

    • Thanks Jax! =)

You know how I feel about your blog and your photos. You are just too much of all the right stuff. =) I hope your 2011 is the most fabulous year yet.

      Thanks for dropping by!

  3. Jacob! Amazing. What a master you are and what a journey! Your photos are always incredible; like eating without having to. You are an artist in so many ways. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2011.

    • Hey BL!

It’s funny that you should say that. I often tell people it is like finding a new way to consume food. And I actually do feel that way. people often ask ho it is that I am able to make all of these foods and (typically) not eat them. And that’s exactly why. =)

      Thanks for stopping by! =)

  4. I can’t believe you only began this year – you are already a pro! 🙂

Love the pics and the recap. Awesome resolution to not use a single plastic bag! I need to join you in that.

    Cheers to 2011!

    • Hi Laura!

Yeah, I have resolved not to use plastic bags for the last two years, and while i have improved by at least 85 percent… in the end I have fallen short. So this year, armed with a mountain of new, cute reusable bags, I hope to be better. (not to mention the fact that Oren may soon be banning the use of them state wide!). Cheers, happy 2011! =)

  5. Your photos are gorgeous! And you’ve been posting for less than a year….congratulations! I look forward to following you.

  6. Even your first photo was amazing. It was fun to see a review of your 2010 adventures. I’ve enjoyed following it.

  7. I love it when my Google reader says you have a new post and I’m amazed you’ve only had your blog since May. I’m so glad I found it! Happy 2011.

  8. A great review of 2010 with such beautiful pictures. I aspire to have pictures that are even close to yours. Looking forward to 2011!

  9. The goat cheese stuffed cherry tomatoes look amazing! I’d love to try that! I entertain guests at my house quite often so I could definitely try these real soon… thank you for sharing!
    Happy 2011!

    • Thanks Kate!

Such an easy and quick little nibble to serve with cocktails. And a great way to improve upon less than flavorful winter tomatoes. (though cucumber cups, new potatoes, big globe grapes, etc would all work equally well.)

      Thanks for stopping by! =)

  10. I started my blog full-force in July of last year, and I have been following you pretty closely. Some of your wonderful pictures and recipes have landed in my kitchen. I am glad I know about your blog.

    • Thanks Angie!

Your blog is lovely. Especially for having only started in July. Look at us newbies bringing it. lol I especially enjoyed your eggnog frosted snickerdoodle cookies. Yum! Keep up the great work =)

      Thanks for dropping by! =)

  11. Man- who knew a shrimp tail could look so sexy?? Looking at your photos have helped improve mine. Here’s to an amazing food journey in 2011! And way to rid yourself of plastic bags. I always keep extra totes in the front seat- that way it’s harder to forget them when you run into the store!

    • Thanks Jennifer!

I know, right? That shrimp tail photo kills me. I’m not sure why. I think it was one of the first photos that I took with my point and shoot and thought, “wow. this is really good!” You know?

With gluten free recipes as a goal of mine this year, I am sure I will be drawing much inspiration form you and your blog in 2011 =)

      Thanks for dropping by! =)

  12. isn’t it amazing how we have progressed through necessity! You have had a wonderful 2010, and I expect great things from you this year! It has been a pleasure getting to know you !
